Debden Photoshop & Screenprint workshop

Both Dan and myself ran this workshop over two half days. The first day focused on screenprints inspired by music and performance classes they attended previously as part of their curiculum. Dan brought some wonderfully strange music for the warm up which worked well for the remaining session. I photographed the students getting them to imagine how they could interact with a musical instrument (as most of them had drawn then screenprinted various musical instruments). So they for example imagined standing on top of the drums, holding a guitar etc...The second session was solely Photoshop based and after a hairy start (the school has new computers but a temperamental system) they got into it and produced some digital gems.

Great images..! Classic combination of screen/mono prints and photos.Well done you both.
Computer networks in schools are so often temperamental it can drive you crazy - if they're not then the technicians are!
Art & ICT creative sessions are so often obstacle courses, a challenge to see if you can break through the pain threshold and actually arrive at a point where ideas overcome the technological barriers. Ultimately worth it though and it has to be done.

Thanks Tony!
Yes, even in the super techy centre in Islington the computers and printers were a bit temperamental, luckely technicians were not. Have to say that in Debden it was quite hairy when some students couldn't open Photoshop, then couldn't open images, then couldn't save. We really had to battle it out - BUT once that worked it was great, we had such a nice bunch of students and the teacher who was very supportive! I think this was a first for the school, they installed the Photoshop before our workshops and the technician is overstreched - only one technitian for a school of around 600 students, no wonder. So, even with the challenges it was so much fun - I guess Dan and me managed to break through the pain treshold and got some creativity flowing :-)
